Why the big deal with Claude 3.7 and what does it mean for software development?
Claude 3.7 is Anthropics latest model showing a minimum of 10% improvement on solving practical software development problems
It's benchmarking better than Grok, Open AI and others in most cases
It has a hybrid approach to thinking so it will decide when to move fast and when to stop and think (extended reasoning)
What does this mean in practical terms. Anthropic are doubling down on the fact they are the favourite for software development and this latest model looks to be a step forward in allowing us to build applications and develop new software.
I'm currently testing it on some real world projects and will report back on what the "Vibe" is (How the model feels applied practically)
They also released Claude Code but this kind of tool has existed in many ways for quite some time via Cursor, Windsurf, Aider and others. It will be interesting to see how it develops.
